Fully automatic laser trimming cell for radial shaft seals
Standalone cell with bulk feeding, singulation and inner and outer diameter processing in a single setup.
Project status: Built and commissioned. A separate industrial project.
Task and independent concept
This cell is a separate project for automated finishing of smaller radial shaft seals. The documented version processes an outer diameter of approximately 30 mm and an inner diameter of about 20 mm.
Feeding and handling
Bulk parts are supplied through a vibratory feeder and linear track. A pneumatic pick-and-place system transfers individual parts to the machining fixture. The mechanical functions must be coordinated in both space and time.
Processing in one setup
Inner and outer diameters are processed in the same setup, combining two machining tasks with one workpiece positioning operation. The portfolio states a cycle time of approximately 7–10 seconds per part for the documented case.
My contribution and implementation
My contribution included mechanical development and design, assemblies and manufacturing drawings, and support during implementation. The standalone cell was built and commissioned.
