Project from a previous industrial role

Fully automatic laser trimming and deburring machine

Mechanical development of automated radial shaft seal finishing equipment — from feeding to the rotating workpiece fixture.

Project status: Built and commissioned. An industrial project from my work in special-purpose machine design.

Initial task

Excess material from vulcanisation was to be automatically removed from elastomer seals. The documented machine handles FKM radial shaft seals with an internal diameter of approximately 70–90 mm and excess material of up to about 2 mm.

My contribution

I developed the mechanical concept and design in Autodesk Inventor, selected bearings, drives and other components, and prepared manufacturing drawings and tolerances. My work extended to design support during assembly and commissioning.

The process sequence

Feeding, singulation, transfer and rotating seal positioning are integrated with laser processing and extraction. Coordination of workpiece holding, motion, accessibility and mechanical interfaces is crucial.

Built machine assembly

The machine was built and commissioned. The portfolio states a cycle time of approximately 4–6 seconds per part for this version. These data apply to the documented case and are not a general performance commitment for other parts.
